APT Macau: Hung Sheng Lin wins the Main Event

The APT Macau Championships concluded recently, on 6th of May 2018. The Main Event and the Championship Event were two of the highlights of the tournament series, and the Main Event was won by Taiwanese poker pro Hung Sheng Lin.

This stop of the Asian Poker Tour was being contested at the Billionaire Poker Room, and a total of 377 entries were recorded in the Main Event, which ran between 28th April and 2nd May. An HKD 11,000 buy-in saw a record turnout for the Main Event, beating the 326 registered entries seen way back in 2009.

The advertised guaranteed prize pool of HKD 2 million was crushed, with a new prize pool of HKD 3,619,200 being created, and Lin taking away the biggest share of HKD 587,000 (~$74,700) for first place. Playing for nearly a decade, this became Lin’s 8th live title in the Asian circuit, and also the highest ever live cash of his career, beating the HKD 450,000 he won for 3rd place in an MPC event in 2011.

Some of the most popular names in Asian poker were spotted at the Main Event, including the likes of Iori Yogo, Michael Soyza, Sparrow Cheung and many others. Cheung finished 39th in the Main Event, but it was a good series for him, beating 108 entries to win the APT Macau Championship Event.

Lin dominated the final 8, which consisted of several newcomers. It wasn’t long before he reached heads up, with the chip lead against Russia’s Evgeny Kurilenko. He claimed a number of pots and finally, his J-8 proved to be better than Kurilenko’s A-J when the board opened 9-K-J-8-7 and gave Lin the title with two pairs.
