Already having a very packed schedule for the 2019 Season of the Asian Poker Tour (APT), the company has decided to go on and add another stop to its calendar. This time, they’ve ventured into the land of the rising sun, Japan, for a tournament series early in 2019.
This is the first time ever APT will host a series in Japan, and the dates booked for this historic event are 1 to 11 February 2019. The last major poker event to be held in Japan was the 2018 WPT Japan where the Main Event was won by Shingo Endo, beating a field of 322 entries in September this year.
Now, we aren’t sure of how much of participation to expect at this event; it may just be an all-Japanese field. Also remember, since cash prizes are ‘forbidden’ in Japan, prizes will be given away in the form of packages to the 2019 APT Philippines which will take place after the stop in Japan.
The Kickoff tournament will be played on the first day with a buy-in of JPY 10,000 (~INR 6,500) and there will be a total of eight side events, along with the Main Event and Championships Event. The Main Event will have 3 starting flights while the Championships Event will have 2, with a buy-in of JPY 30,000 (~INR 19,500) and JPY 25,000 (~INR 16,300) respectively.
The tournament series will take place at the Casino Stadium Tokyo and for those travelling from around the world, the nearest airport is the Haneda Airport. Lloyd Fontillas, the APT General Manager and Executive Tournament Director, will serve as the 2019 APT Japan guest host. The series will be more-or-less like a satellite series for packages to the next stop in Manila, Philippines.
