BPT Main Event: Phanindra Akkina leads 104 survivors to Day 2


It was a busy day in Casino Pride 2 observing the best-known poker players of the country making most of the opportunity. The 2020 Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) that is currently underway has hit the coast of Goa putting down some of the biggest guaranteed tournaments. The 7-day long festival is now hosting the most awaited BPT Main Event which assures a jaw-dropping INR 2 Crore!

The first starting flight, Day 1A, hosted two-days ago pulled out a total number of 232 players who enrolled for a buy-in of INR 38,000. After intense hours of grinding, the field whittled down to 39 competitors and it was the December’s Millionaire INR 2 Crore GTD champion on Spartan Poker, Phanindra Akkina who amassed a gigantic stack of 501,000.

At 9 pm the casino floor was lit once again for Day 1B, gathering a smaller bunch of 59 players. A prominent name in the industry and the winner 2017 Deltin Poker Kick-Off Event Rubin Labroo accrued the largest stack of 276,000 at the end of level 15.

With total live earnings of over $113k, poker pro Zarvan Tumboli walked out with a towering stack of 463,000 chips on Day 1C of the Main Event. There’s a long list of standout performances given by Tumboli throughout his poker career and is expected to give a tough competition! Tumboli accomplished the 2015 IPC Freezeout followed by the 2017 APT Macau Opening Event and the 2018 WPT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Cup. While the chip leader who will be leading 39 players to Day 2, earned his career-best for finishing 3rd in 2017 DPT High Roller securing $23,825.

The fourth and the final starting flight, Day 1D which followed a turbo format saw 15th in India’s All-time money list Nishant Sharma outlasting a field of 105 entries and accumulating the largest stack of 416,000. The chip leader who was seen on the final table of 2019 BPT PLO, was the runner-up of 2019 DPT Colossus 50k Warm Up.

Other notable contenders progressing to the next day include Anant Purohit with 397,000 chips, Kartik Ved bagging 327,500 chips, Pranay Chawla with 252,000 chips, runner-up of the BPT Kick Off event Sriharsha Doddapaneni with 239,000 chips, Kanchan Sharma with 200,000 chips, 2019 IPC Freezeout winner Siddharth Mundada with 197,000 chips, WSOP bracelet winners Nikita Luther with 176,000 chips and Aditya Sushant with 167,500 chips, Maria Kirloskar with 49,000 chips and so on.

  4. Nitin Jain – 437,000
  5. Nishant Sharma – 416,000

  10. Aravind Raj – 316,000

The advertised guarantee was met, and the top 63 places will benefit from the newly generated prize pool. Day 2 of the Main Event will commence with the overall chip leader from Day 1A Phanindra Akkina who will lead a total of 104 survivors. The second flight is scheduled to commence today, 13 January at 2 pm local time with each player aiming for the top prize of INR 43.21 Lakhs!
