The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) is currently taking place at the luxurious beachside Atlantis Resort and Casino in Paradise Island, Bahamas. The series began on 5th January 2019 and will run till 16th January. One of the most anticipated events in the series was PokerStars Players Championships (PSPC) and was touted to be a ‘rags to riches’ event, which was indeed the case. Platinum Pass holder, Spain’s Ramon Colillas won the prestigious PSPSC with almost zero investment and bagging $5.1 million.
The PCA $10,300 Main Event drew a total of 865 entries including the 242 re-entries and created a prize pool of $8,390,500. Main Event Day 2 chip leader, Pierre Calamusa, had 1.5 million chips entering Day 3 but got busted at 25th place for a cash prize of $44,060. Second in chip lead, Spain’s Vicent Bosca is still in the game at 13th with 965,000 chips at the end of Day 3.
The chip leader among the Final 20 reached on 14th January was Canadian pro Tommy Nguyen who will resume Day 4 today with 2,705,000 chips before him. Trailing him is Lebanese pro Jeff Hakim with a stack of 2,640,000. Austrian pro and recent EPT Prague SHR winner Matthias Eibinger is also in the mix with a stack of 2,485,000 at 4th place.
The chip leader, Nguyen, is a known player and has played plenty of live events before, having cashes dating back to as far as 2008. His biggest live cash was made at 2018 WSOP Monster Stack event which he shipped for $1,037,451. He mostly plays in the North American continent and all his earnings come from US or Canada and is quite popular in his home country.
Although the chip lead isn’t much significant in terms of margin, he has a fairly decent chance to ship the Main Event and win the 1st place cash prize of $1,567,100 (~INR 11.14 Crores), if at all, due to the underdog effect which we saw in PSPC earlier in the series.
One of the biggest names in the Final 20 is undoubtedly USA’s David Rheem, having nearly $9 million in live earnings. He is sitting at 7th in chip counts with a stack of 1,425,000. Rheem made his best score at 2008 WSOP Main Event for 7th place earning $1,772,650. Other knowns to play today in Day 4 include Brian Altman and Christoph Vogelsang.
Some of the well-known pros to bust in the Main Event race include 2018 CPP Main Event winner Filipe Oliveira (21st), Claas Segebrecht (27th), Maria Ho (29th), Maxi Lehmanski (48th), PCA $100K SHR winner Sam Greenwood (73rd), Day 1A Chip Leader Alex Kharkov (83rd) and 2018 partypoker MILLIONS Online winner Manuel Ruivo (108th).
The penultimate day of the PCA Main Event will begin today at 12 pm local time. Each of the players will get at least $60,840 today but all eyes will be fixed on the trophy and 1st place cash prize. Blinds will resume at 10K/25K/25K (big blind ante) and each level will be of 90 minutes. The day will go on till Final 6 players have reached.
