The government around the world has been taking strict actions to curb the spreading of COVID-19. Asia is currently on high alert and India is not far behind. The country reported its first confirmed case of coronavirus on 30 January 2020 in the state of Kerala and since then nearly 130 fresh cases have been reported.
India registered its third case of death due to the pandemic infection today and states including Sikkim, Delhi, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Goa have forced shut down the educational institutes, pubs, gyms, casinos, theatres and so on. The impact of the virus has been tremendous across the world and it has certainly affected the gaming industry, especially live poker. So far, several casinos across the globe have been closed to prevent the virus from spreading as live poker tends to attract a huge number of enthusiasts from beyond the walls of the country.
With several poker tours being cancelled and postponed until further notice, the latest one to join the list is the Deltin Poker Tour (DPT) Xpress which was confirmed by the Adda52 Live Team. The upcoming event was scheduled to take place in Goa from 26 to 29 March 2020 at the Deltin JAQK. The online satellites, which were set to run on Adda52.com from 12th -25th March 2020 have also been postponed.
Manish Adnani took to the social media on 30 January 2020 to announce a new DPT tournament series and 2 new DPT Xpress series at the Deltin Royale and Deltin JAQK casinos in Goa. However, the Deltin management has further decided to postpone the DPT April edition too. The series was scheduled was slated to run from 22 to 27 April 2020.
The DPT Xpress March 26-29 has been postponed due to the rapid spread of the Covid -19 virus. All satellites on Adda52 will also be cancelled with immediate effect. The new dates will be announced shortly.”
Commenting on the cancellation or the postponement of the DPT Xpress March 2020 edition, Manish J. Adnani, the Business Head of Poker at Delta Corp Ltd, stated, “Unfortunate that the world is facing a crisis currently with the COVID-19 virus. We were optimistic to roll out the second edition of the DPT X, which has a fantastic start to the series. It’s important to stay safe at these times, and postponing the event is in line with ‘Social Distancing,’ which is has been prescribed as our first line of defense. I hope the situation improves, and the world comes back to normalcy sooner than later.”
The Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant announced on Saturday the shutting down of all casinos and educational institutions in the state until 31 March, in the wake of COVID-19 scare. However, this wouldn’t affect the poker action, as there is a dearth of events taking place each day on the online felts across the leading Indian platforms.
