Popular poker player, Bertrand Grospellier, also known as ‘ElkY‘ welcomes the Indian poker community into the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in a video on Facebook. Bertrand Grospellier fondly known as ‘ElkY’ in the poker community, is a French poker player born 8 February 1981 in Melun. He has won a bracelet in the World Poker Tour (WPT), WSOP and the European Poker Tour (EPT) each. As of July 2014, he is ranked 77th on the Global Poker Index. He is also a partypoker pro.
The 32 second video was posted on The Players Group on 8 December which shows the pro greeting the community in India with a warm ‘Namaste.’ The GGPoker ambassador explains how thrilled he is to be able to play online poker with players from India and has already seen some excellent wins from them. He also hopes to see good performances in the ongoing WSOP series from Indian players, ending the clip with a parting ‘Namaste.’
The WSOP introduced a new hybrid format which is a combination of online and offline tournaments. The new format has given players from all over the world an opportunity to compete with each other on a single platform. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the usual live format of the WSOP was changed so that players could safely participate in the tournament. Most of the events will be held online and only the selected events would be held live in Las Vegas.
The sweet message from ElkY to the Indian poker community is surely an encouraging one for all the players in the country. With big poker names participating in the country, the WSOP 2020 is an event that should not be missed for any reason. Register for the WSOP and who knows, you may find your name in the poker hall of fame.
