Faiz Alam wins Spartan Saturday Social

Saturday Social INR 8 Lakhs GTD, Spartan Poker’s replacement for the previous feature tournament of the day, DareDevil, has attracted a good turnout so far. It was inaugurated early last month and the first winner of this was Chirag Sodha who won it for ~INR 1.68 Lakhs.

Last night’s Saturday Social attracted a field of 164 unique players to the virtual felts of Spartan Poker and paid out the top 24 places for a sizeable min-cash of INR 8,000. The tournament was played out in the turbo format and had a buy-in of INR 3,300. It kicked off at 7.30 pm in the evening.

Winning the title and bagging the first-place cash prize was known online regular Faiz Alam aka ‘DrStrange’. He took home INR 1,84,000 beating ‘supernuts’ in heads-up to secure his victory.

The final hand of the match saw Alam already having accumulated an overwhelming lead of over 12:1. His opponent went all-in pre-flop with Threes and Alam called with Ace-nine. The board revealed 4s Td Tc 4c 6h and though both made Tens and Fours on the board, Alam secured first place with the higher Ace kicker.

Alam recently made news when he became one of the winners of Spartan 5 For 5 last month, earning the INR 5 Lakhs GTD amount that came with it. He is a regular online player and is quite active in the community as well. He’ll be looking to play some more poker using this money and be hoping to win some tournaments in coming months too.

Since it was a Saturday, the offerings were a bit relaxed to prep for the following day of poker extravaganza on Sunday.  The field of Saturday Social witnessed some regs and top pros but Alam ultimately denied them all the title.
