3 Famous Poker Players Of The Early 2000s: Where Are They Now?


While poker has been around for more than a century, the poker boom of the 2000s opened doors for a new wave of people to become interested in poker. Who wouldn’t want to pay a few card games and win millions right? This was the draw and appeal that the game had towards many people. Some of them became went on to become the fresh new faces of poker. Three of these players have come a long way from their first big win, let’s take a look at where they are now.

Chris Moneymaker

Many consider him to be the one that started the poker boom back in 2003. Before his win Moneymaker was an accountant doing just a regular 9 – 5 job until all that changed when he was crowned the 2003 WSOP Main Event champion.

After his big win he signed a sponsorship deal with PokerStars and continues to tour as a professional poker player. He also serves as a member of Team PokerStars Pro and is also an ambassador for the Hollywood Poker Open.

Jennifer Harman

Harman began playing poker from a very young age and in 2000 she won her first World Series of Poker bracelet. She went on to win her second WSOP bracelet in 2002 at the $5K Texas Limit Hold’em becoming the first woman to hold two bracelets in the WSOP open events. She is considered to be one of the best poker players in the world.

Harman continues to play poker while being a single mom to her twins. She was inducted into the Poker World of Fame in 2015. She also recently featured in Poker League of Nations Facebook LIVE and is active on social media.

Chris Ferguson

Like Jennifer Harman, Chris Ferguson had started playing poker from a very young age. Ferguson won his first bracelet in the 2000 WSOP $2,500 Seven-Card Stud event for $151,000. He then defeated T. J. Cloutier heads-up at the Main Event to win the $1.5 million prize. He was also nicknamed ‘Jesus’ for his long brown hair and beard.

In 2011, Ferguson was involved in a scandal regarding a civil complaint against Full Tilt Poker of which he was a founder. He won his sixth bracelet in the 2017 WSOP and had also set a record with 23 cashes. He also won the WSOP Player of the Year Award that same year.
