Quote – “You also need to find out what you are good at. It’s poker after all and you are going to make mistakes; so learning not to get to down on yourself, pick yourself up and carry on is really important.”
As a young girl, Selbst loved games particularly cards which paid off in the year 2006 when she finished 7th in WSOP NLH for $101K. With her intelligence and understanding of mathematics, it didn’t take long for her to begin building an impressive resume. The poker pro soon became the only woman to ever reach the number one ranking in the world on the Global Poker Index.
In 2008, Selbst won her first-ever WSOP bracelet for an impressive $227,933 in prize money, after four years she took down 2012 WSOP 10-Game Six Handed for $244K. Later, she went on to grab a whopping $871K in 2014 WSOP Mixed Max! And right now, the outstanding player sits 7th in New York’s all time money list.
Rank #1 in Tennessee’s all-time money list, ‘PokerKat’ has been a regular face in WSOP for nearly decades. Liebert stepped into live poker arena in 1994 Gold Coast Open in Las Vegas where she finished 2nd. Quote – “I used all of my acting skills. At one point I let them think I had a poor hand. I knew if they smelled weakness, they would try to bluff me and I had “the nuts.” The guys put all their chips in when I had the superior hand. Their egos got the best of them. It serves them right to get beaten by a woman.”
All of us remember the Duchess of Poker for her steely gaze and headphones! An author, business founder and of course, high stakes poker crusher. Like many pros, Duke has written strategy books, including ‘The Middle Zone’ and ‘Decide to Play Great Poker’. She has also founded a charity ‘Ante Up for Africa’, which raises money for charities works directly with poor African nations. In addition, Annie co-founded the ‘Epic Poker League’ – and co-created the Global Poker Index. Owner of 2004 WSOP bracelet, she has cashed 38 times in WSOP. For some time Duke was the leading money winner among women in the WSOP history until Vanessa Selbst came along to claim that spot.
Quote – “The secret is to make peace with walking around in a world where we recognize that we are not sure and that’s okay. As we learn more about how our brains operate, we recognize that we don’t perceive the world objectively. But our goal should be to try.”
