Galfond Challenge: Galfond books small win against ‘ActionFreak’!

The Run It Once Poker founder moved on to his next challenge after three months of battling against ‘VeniVidi1993’. Making most of the current situation, Phil Galfond’s heads-up challenge continues. Not only did he begin to play with Bill Perkins, his second challenge, he also celebrated his victory after defeating Daniel Cates aka ‘Jungleman’ for €86,870 earlier this month.

The Galfond Challenge between Phil Galfond and online pro Ioannis Kontonatsios aka ‘ActionFreak’ have agreed to play €150-300 Pot Limit Omaha. Currently, Galfond is winning above €2k per 100 hands which comes with 9 big blinds per 100 hands. The match is set for 15,000 hands with a €150,000 sidebet resting on the outcome.

Monday’s session, 11 May, saw Galfond in the lead. The 9^th session of the challenge completed 721 hands and at the end of the day, Galfond had lost €256,044 to ‘ActionFreak’. Despite a significant loss, Galfond remained in the overall lead. We are halfway through the challenge and yesterday was Day 10 where Galfond booked €19k win off his opponent. So far 7,272 hands have been played, and he is in the lead by €197,252

One of the big pot worth €79k went Galfond’s way. He won it with set of jacks over set of fives that ‘ActionFreak’ held. The latter checked the Kc Jh 5h 8s on the board with €4k in the middle. The former bet and ‘ActionFreak’ raised to €16k. Eventually, Galfond put his entire stack in the middle and his opponent called with €19k.

Galfond with Kh Js Kd 7d and ‘ActionFreak’ with 7c 5c 5s 3h. The river card 3d was enough to keep Galfond in the lead and give him the pot too! Both players will be back on Thursday, 14 May to play at least 750 hands on Day 11 of the Galfond Challenge!
