IOPC: Chiraag Patel ships Big Daddy tournament

Yesterday being a Sunday, there were a lot of high-guarantee tournaments taking place on The Spartan Poker. To add to that, it was the final day of the India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) as well. One of the big tournaments of the day was the Big Daddy tournament, with the prize pool being lifted to INR 10 lakh for the IOPC.

IOPC Event #51 Big Daddy INR 10 Lac GTD (1100 RE) kicked off at 4pm IST and the specialty of this weekly tournament is that the winner is awarded a free package trip to Goa, to play at the Big Daddy Casino. This is of course, in addition to the player’s tournament winnings.

Yesterday’s Big Daddy tournament was a part of the IOPC and it saw a massive field of 926 entries taking part, with the top 79 players being paid out a minimum prize of INR 3,400. Popular online player Chiraag Patel aka ‘Drunkenf1st’ topped this field, taking home INR 1,91,900 for first place, along with a free package trip to Goa, worth INR 30,000.

This isn’t the first time Patel has won a major title on The Spartan Poker, also having shipped an Electra tournament a couple of months back and topping the Quickie Series Anniversary Leaderboard in February this year. However, this would’ve been one of his best wins till date.

He beat ‘Justin bonomo’ in heads-up. No, it’s not the player who won $10 million in the recent WSOP 2018 Big One for One Drop Event, but just a namesake. The players were all-in pre-flop and Patel’s pair of Kings was superior to Justin bonomo’s high card (King), who settled for the runners up prize of INR 1,20,400.

Gutshot had a word with Patel after this big win. “The IOPC edition of Big Daddy turned out to be one of extreme high value. An INR 1100 entry fee for a first place prize of nearly 2 Lakh is pretty incredible,” he said. He also spoke about his run, saying, “I think I played pretty well. However, I ran really good at the right time and entered the FT as chip leader. I ran quite well on the final table as well and ended up with a 6:1 chip lead against a good player ‘Justin bonomo’ during heads-up play. It was over in a few hands after. Enjoyed the tourney, and really glad I could ship one before the end of the series! I won a huge pot with two tables remaining where ‘the villain’ and me both flopped top pair but his kicker was a lot better. I rivered a 1 card straight for the double up and didn’t really look back from there.”

He told us about his future poker plans, saying, “I’ll mostly stick to the online grind and build a bankroll for now. I will be travelling to Goa for the DPT this week and Manila for the APPT next month.”
