Jay Pandya is Spartan’s ‘Elite’ player of the week

They often say poker is a game of numbers and math and probability. So, we ask, who knows number and math better than accountants? Last night, The Elite INR 20 Lakh GTD was hosted on Spartan Poker as it is every Friday night and this edition was taken down by a professional Chartered Accountant, Jay Pandya.

As the name suggests, this one is only meant for the elite group of poker players who know their game and who can afford the steep buy-in of INR 11,000. Yesterday, 199 entries constituted the prize pool, which missed the guarantee by just a single entry. From them, only the top 20 got pay-checks, each taking away a minimum cash prize of INR 26,800.

Not many in the industry know of Jay Pandya, who plays as ‘Ba Ba Black Sheep’ on Spartan Poker. However, he has had a couple of deep runs in The Elite 6-Max in the past, finishing 4th and 2nd before. You know what they say about third time being the charm? Well, it clearly worked out for Pandya last night, shipping his first ever Elite title on Spartan.

Elite is known less for its high guarantee and big prizes but known more for players being able to earn the bragging rights. Of course, the pay jumps are really high and that’s why the players involved last night decided to cut a 4-way deal and avoid anyone missing out on big prizes.

Surprisingly, all 4 players are lesser known in the online circuit. Pandya had the second biggest stack among these 4 but winning a small pot of 66k chips in the final hand saw him go ahead of ‘Thor999’, who had to settle for the runner-up position and a prize of INR 3,32,550.

However, Pandya was only slightly ahead, and his title victory gave him a little bit more in prize money, taking home INR 3,38,520. The other two who benefitted from this deal were ‘fassin’ and ‘ONmyMAC’, with the latter having also won the inaugural HeadHunter tournament on Spartan a night prior.

When Gutshot reached out to Pandya regarding this massive win, he said, “This is my first victory. I had been 4th and 2nd in this tournament before but never got the championship title. I would like to say a big thanks to Dhruvin Kothari, a regular poker player, my guide, mentor and poker coach.”
