Matt Russell leads Marathon Day 3; Iyer finishes 75th

Six levels of 100 minutes each were played on Day 3 of Event #26: $2,620 No-Limit Hold’Em Marathon, where Abhinav Iyer was among 188 runners as the only Indian in the field. By the end of the third official day, it was USA’s Matt Russell who bagged the chip lead with 1.26 million chips in play.

It was some intense poker action that we witnessed with several past bracelet winners in the mix. Our Indian champion Abhinav Iyer did well and made a deep run to finish eventually in 75th place out of the original field of 1,083 entries. He has a few cashes already in the WSOP 2019 series and he added some more to his bankroll, earning $5,444 (~INR 3.78 Lakh) for this finish.

By the end of the day, only 52 players managed to get a bag and they will all return to Rio All Suites tonight for Day 4 of the tournament, with bigger prizes up for grabs. However, none of them will be wanting to settle for anything below the top prize of $477,401.

Quite a few bracelet winners were busted during the day including 3-time bracelet winner David Pham who busted just before the close of day’s play. Other known faces in the mix are Sergio Fernandez, Preston Lee, Mohsin Charania, Erkut Yilmaz, Day 2 chip leader David Coleman, Anatoly Filatov, and others.
