Mikhail Ivanov wins TIPS Turbo Freezeout Event

The Indian Poker Series (TIPS) is currently making its debut at the Kings Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. It was the first edition of this tournament and was scheduled between 15-20 August, with Indian players being kept in mind, especially those who generally can’t afford the high buy-ins that are associated with tournaments in Europe and other parts of the world.

The series was planned out by Indian poker players Jaydeep Dawer and Manish Goenka, and Goenka himself has found a spot among the pay-outs in one of the early tournaments. Yesterday, we reported news of Petr Hora winning the opening event. Now, we have news from the Turbo Noon Freezeout tournament, a one-day event that concluded yesterday.

24 entries registered to this freezeout tournament which had a buy-in of just €80, as the tournament promised buy-ins as much as those one would expect from tournaments in Goa. Only 3 places were paid out in this turbo tournament, of which Manish Goenka grabbed the last spot.

Russian poker player Mikhail Ivanov shipped the tournament, beating Germany’s Markus Sebastian Borel in heads-up and winning a prize of €912 (~INR 72,700) for first place. Borel was awarded €547 (~INR 43,600) for finishing second, while Goenka took away €365 (~INR 29,100) for third-place.

The Main Event also kicked off at the Kings Casino, which is the largest casino in Europe. The tournament has an advertised buy-in of €100,000 and a total of 85 entries (67 players+18 re-entries) registered on Day 1a. At the end of the day’s play, 25 survivors bagged up to return on Day 2.

Among these survivors were 11 Indian players, including Roshan Romeo Rodrigues, Sunny Sunny, Ankit Saxena, Durga Deepak Botta, Varun Gupta, Gaurav Maganlal Gala, Denish Ashok Desai, Varun Ganjoo, Anish Patra, Zarvan Tumboli and Udaysinh Mohanrao Patil. All of these will be aiming for the top prize in this tournament, which is yet to be calculated.
