omgrachelgreen wins SSS Mega Freeze; tops Day 1 Leaderboard

It was a great start to the Spartan Super Series for online poker player ‘omgrachelgreen’. INR 3.7+ crore is being given away by The Spartan Poker in this series between 13-19 August and INR 10 lakh is also being given away on the SSS Leaderboard, shared among the top 10 most consistent players.

omgrachelgreen would’ve kept this in mind as the player began by making a deep run in the second tournament of the series. He outlasted everyone but ‘Renben Poker’, ultimately finishing second. However, the player was determined to make it count later in the day.

The Mega Freeze was the most anticipated tournament of the day, with a buy-in of INR 5,500 and a guaranteed prize pool of INR 7.5 lakh. omgrachelgreen ensured another deep run in the SSS, but this time, the player completed the win, outlasting 171 entries in this freezeout tournament and taking home the top prize.

The tournament kicked off at 7:30pm IST and the huge field beat the advertised guarantee, creating a new prize pool of INR 8.55 lakh. This prize pool was then distributed among the top 24 players with a minimum cash of INR 8,550 and omgrachelgreen took away the biggest prize of all – INR 1,96,650.

The Mega Freeze came to an end in Level #44, with the blinds at 9,000/18,000 – 1,800. omgrachelgreen had a chip lead of around 4:1 over heads-up opponent ‘bluffpolice123’. In what became the final hand of the tournament, bluffpolice123 made the all-in call pre-flop, with Kh 9s. The board opened Kd 2d 3d 8d Td and the river card gave omgrachelgreen an Ace-high flush, with Ad Tc. bluffpolice123 had to settle for the runners-up prize of INR 1,32,098.

This remarkable consistency not only gave omgrachelgreen the title and the tournament winnings, but also the #1 spot at the end of Day 1 on the SSS Leaderboard. A top prize of INR 4 lakh will come the player’s way if he manages to keep this top spot throughout the SSS series.

Gutshot caught up with the winner, who said, “The Mega Freeze Event was quite a fun one won to win. I registered quite late, but I picked up some nice hands early on, and overall it was a very smooth progress through the tournament. I was in a good rhythm because I am playing every tournament in SSS and shooting for leaderboard. Overall SSS has been a great experience so far, and Spartan is doing a great job providing excellent guarantees and the best tourney schedule in India.”
