Piotr Nurzynski wins EPT Barcelona Main Event

Yesterday was the final day of the 2018 European Poker Tour (EPT) tournament series in Barcelona, which has been one of their most popular stops over the years. This year was the best of them all, with a record-breaking field of 1,931 entries registering to the prestigious EPT Main Event.

The Main Event had a buy-in of €5,300 and some of the best poker pros from around the world registered to the tournament, which ultimately boiled down to the final six players after Day 5, with China’s Haoxiang Wang in the chip lead. Yesterday, they came out to battle for the top prize of €1,611,500 for first place.

However, there was a deal made in 4-way play as a big chunk of the first-place prize was deducted to ensure bigger prizes to the rest in the top four. Ultimately, it was Poland’s Piotr Nurzynski who took down the Main Event title, winning a smaller amount than the original calculated first-place prize, but still a huge pay-out. He took home a pay-check of €1,037,109 (~INR 8.56 crore).

Wang, who was the chip leader after Day 5, finished as runner-up and he took away a 7-figure prize as well, while Nurzynski would’ve been over the moon with this win. At the end of Day 4, he was 8/13 among the final survivors and chipped up well to take home this prestigious title.

“I can’t believe it… it struck me. Wow. I ran really really well. I made two huge mistakes today and I was thinking I can’t win it.
