Poker Masters shifted online with $15 Million GTD!

With the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic affecting the live poker tournament scene, organizers are turning to online platform partnership. A few days ago, partypoker and Poker Central joined forces to bring Poker Masters online.

The current situation has resulted in several live festivals for the upcoming month to be cancelled and postponed indefinitely with the increasing number in virus cases. The news came on Thursday that partypoker partnered with Poker Central on a new Poker Masters Online high stakes tournament series that will guarantee over $15 million in prizes.

For the past three years, the live event has been held during the fall and each year players are encouraged to grind every event by posting a leaderboard. The champions of the leaderboard claim the ceremonial purple jacket along with extra monetary reward of $50,000 as prize. This two-week online series will run from 12 to 26 April 2020. Sam Soverel in 2019, Ali Imsirovic in 2018 and in the year 2017 Steffen Sontheimer won the purple jacket.

Partypoker Managing Director, Tom Waters, said, “We are pleased to be able to give players the chance to continue doing what they love and play the tournament in online format. The Poker Masters brand carries significant weight in the poker community and we believe this innovative online format will be appealing for fans and players alike.”

The coveted series will consists of 30 high roller events with buy-ins ranging from $10,300 to as high as $51,000. And the star attraction, the Main Event’s finale will be held on 26 April. Boasting a huge buy-in of $51,000, the tournament will post $2 million in prize pool.

Sam Simmons, Poker Central President, also added, “We know partypoker is the right landing spot for our tournament brand to evolve into a new format. We value this partnership as a way to bring the poker community together in these uncertain times.”

partypoker is on a full schedule during the quarantine. Another cancelled festival the 2020 Irish Poker Open that was scheduled to take place between 6-13 April at the Citywest Hotel, Dublin, the longest running poker tour in Europe to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year. In order to meet the demands of the poker fanatics, partypoker stepped in to provide online edition featuring €1 million GTD. The series is slated to run between 6-12 April 2020 hosting a total of 22 events.

Players will be battling under their screen names rather than real names. Further, the question arises if there could be any sort of live coverage of the event for the fans. Just like all Poker Central events, Poker Masters has always been streamed on PokerGo. However, so far no decision has been taken as single-day events with players under their screen names would be quite unfeasible.
