Now, new graphics files were discovered in the PokerStars client which hint at this forthcoming game called Six Plus Hold’em. It also included image assets with the logo of Asia Gaming, which could hint at a collaboration between PokerStars and the Asian gaming company to help launch this new variant, which originated in Macau.

Americas Cardroom is another online poker room that is planning to roll out Six Plus Hold’em. While PokerStars hasn’t confirmed this new variant of the game, Americas Cardroom has reportedly sent an email to their players saying that the game will be available later in September, “at cash tables in heads-up, 6-max, and 9-max formats.”

About Six Plus Hold’em

Six Plus Hold’em is a card game which is very similar to traditional Texas Hold’em. The community cards are dealt as normal the number of betting rounds are the same. The main difference is that deuces through fives are removed, which makes a total of 16 cards less from the original deck.

The card deck being used is now of 36 cards as compared to the usual 52 and Aces are used as both high cards and low cards, with both low-ended straights (A6789) and high-ended straights (JTQKA) both possible. The probabilities and mathematics in this game are thus tougher, leading to better action. With less cards in each suit, flushes are rare while straights are more common, making 3-of-a kind better than straights, while flushes better than a full house.
