Pulkit Goyal is Spartan DareDevil winner

Saturday night kicks off the warm up for the biggest day of the week in online poker i.e. Sunday when all poker sites run their biggest tournaments and promotions. A site like The Spartan Poker runs value tournaments at 7:30 pm every day as part of its daily lineup of featured tournaments. Last night’s daily feature was the DareDevil, an INR 6 Lakhs guaranteed tourney which is very popular among the Indian poker fraternity. It was a familiar name in Pulkit Goyal who came out on top by the end of the nearly 6 hour long grind. Goyal who plays under the name ‘Championplayer‘ triumphed over the competition to take down the title. “It was a good experience overall and I especially enjoyed playing the final table,” said Championplayer.  On asking if there any key hands, Goyal had this to say, “One good hand was when I trapped (and busted) a very good player when I hit a set of Nines on the flop and then slowplayed that to knock out my opponent.”

It was a field of 618 entries that crushed the original guarantee of 6 Lakhs making it a total prizepool of INR 8,40,000 which the players were vying for a share of. However only the top 15 places would get paid out and all money finishers were guaranteed a min payday of INR 15,120. Friday night’s Elite tournament winner Rajat ‘Garammasala’ Sharma was once again involved in the mix but he was unable to score another title for the weekend eventually busting out in 3rd place. Sharma received a sum of INR 97,020 for his second runnerup effort.

The final hand of the tournament took place between Championplayer and his headsup opponent ‘nirovar‘ Level #40 (25,000/50,000 ante 5,000). The former had a significant lead of 1.8 million in chips as compared to nirovar’s 506k. Getting the As 2d was enough for niroavar to put it into the middle but he ran into Championplayer’s Ah Tc. The board was 7h Jd 6h 3c 5c giving both players Ace High. However Championplayer’s Ten kicker was enough to win him the tournament and top p. rize of INR 2,14,620. nirovar’s second place finished fetched him INR 1,47,840.

Answering a question from Gutshot about his future plans, Goyal said, “Just want to keep playing and improving and work harder to improve my live game. I am also looking forward to performing well in the upcoming Spartan Super Series (SSS)”
