Sean Winter beats Peters to win PCA $25K High Roller

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) is going on at the luxurious Atlantis Resort and Casino in Bahamas. The most hyped event of the PCA, the PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) has already declared its winner, Spanish Platinum Pass winner Ramon Colillas.

Along with the PSPC, there were Single-Day High Roller events hosted which attracted high-stakes grinders from around the world. The first event among those was the $25,000 Single-Day High Roller.

The tournament had begun 8^th January and was expected to be a one-day affair only, but after heads-up was reached between Sean Winter and David Peters, they played till about 4 am the following morning and had to bag their chips for another day, due to the rules of the floor.

The event attracted 75 entries (including 25 re-entries) in all and saw the top brass of the circuit in the field. Irish pro Steve O’Dwyer, SHR Bowl V winner Isaac Haxton, Steffen Sontheimer, Matthias Eibinger and 2018 GPI Player of the Year Alex Foxen were some of the well-known pros to buy into the $25K HR.

After a lot of back-and-forth in heads-up and multiple double ups by both Winter and Peters, the day resumed yesterday, and Peters immediately doubled up in the first hand after shoving with a two pair on the flop with 5x 2x. The next hand saw Winter double up with higher hole cards.

The third and final hand saw Winter limp on the button and Peters’ call followed. The flop of 7h 3h Qc saw Peters check-calling the 160,000 that Winter bet. Peters again check-called 250,000 of Winter’s bet after the As turn. The 8s river card saw Peters checking, which made Winter shove all-in. Peters tanked for a while and decided to make the call with 7d 2s for the flopped pair of sevens. But the pot was won by Winter who had 8d 7s and had made two pair on the river. He won $495,210 (~INR 3.49 Crores) as 1^st place cash prize.

This win is Winter’s 7^th largest cash prize and brings his lifetime earnings to over $11 million. His best live score though, was when he came 2^nd in the partypoker Caribbean Poker Party Super High Roller in November last year. He had won $2.43 million for his runner-up finish in this. The runner-up Peters brought his lifetime earnings to almost $30 million. He is in top form lately, doing a double at Seminole recently and winning two huge titles with over $1 million in each.
