High roller players around the world started off their year at the PCA 2018 and quite a few of them then travelled to Hollywood, Florida for the 2018 Lucky Hearts Open at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Among quite a few tournaments to be played there was the $50,000 buy-in Super High Roller, which was ultimately won by German poker pro Stefan Schillhabel.
The event offered a $1 million guarantee and a total of 20 players were required to beat the guarantee. Last year, the same event saw a total of 19 entries which led to the guarantee not being beaten, but this year saw 25 entries, crushing the guarantee and thus offering the high roller players a bigger prizepool.
Stefan Schillhabel beat 24 others to take home the trophy and a prize amount of $493,000 for the first place. The tournament paid out the top 5 players with a min-cash of $98,600 and Schillhabel made it to heads up against the 2017 GPI Player of the Year, Adrian Mateos.
“I think it was the toughest final table I’ve ever played,” said Schillhabel to a reporter after this big win. Mateos is one of the best in the business and it was never going to be easy for Schillhabel. The heads up took over 2 hours, with the lead changing thrice and Schillhabel finally had a 2:1 lead going into what would be the final hand of the tournament. Schillhabel won with a 7-3 two pair and with that, he has overtaken Koray Aldemir to go to #10 on Germany’s all-time poker earnings list. He now has $8,632,702 in live poker earnings.
