Sontheimer wins $250k SHR at the 2018 Caribbean Poker Party

partypoker LIVE is a well-known brand in the poker world, conducting high stakes tournaments all around the year. The Caribbean Poker Party (CPP), held in the Caribbean islands every year, opened its 2018 edition on the 9th of November, and is going on as we speak, at the Baha-Mar Resort in the picturesque island-country of Bahamas.

Last night saw the finale of the biggest event of this series, the Super High Roller Championships, having a staggering buy-in of $250,000 and a 42-player cap, beginning on the 13th of this month. Germany pro Steffen Sontheimer emerged victorious among a field of 34 players, cashing out a colossal amount of $3,685,000 (~INR 26.45 Crores).

This is Sontheimer’s biggest live win yet, taking his total live earnings to $12,582,467. This win is surely the heaviest feather in his cap, being only 28 years old. He also cashed two 7-figure pay-checks last year at the $100k NLHE Aria SHR in May 2017 and the Poker Masters $100k NLHE back in September 2017.

The American high-stakes grinder Sean Winter finished second in this event, cashing $2,430,000 (~INR 17.45 Crores) which makes this his biggest live win too. Winter’s last 7-figure win of $1,020,253 (2nd place) was at the $50k NLHE High Roller Event, held at the WSOP 2018, Las Vegas.

With Ac Qh being Winter’s hole cards in the final hand, he limped the button. Sontheimer saw his Ah Kh in the big blind and raised it up to 700,000. Winter 3-bet to 2,000,000 and Sontheimer moved all in. Winter quickly called off his stack of 10,295,000. The flop came to 10s 5d 3h, with Sontheimer still in the lead with his K-kicker. The turn and the river, of 4s and 9h respectively, didn’t matter at all in the end and Sontheimer emerged victorious.

David Petersemerging as the champion of the 2018 Aria Fall Madness a week ago, finished 3rd and won $1,420,000, taking his already supersized live earnings past $29 million. He is now the 5th richest man in the all-time money list.

The $50,000 Super High Roller event of Nov. 12th also ended successfully, with Giuseppe Iadisernia emerging first out of 54 entries and bagging his career-best win of $845,000 (~INR 6.11 Crores). He defeated Sean Winter in the heads-up.

The $25,500 MILLIONS World Event of the 2018 CPP, which ran between 9 and 13 November attracted 394 entries with a $10 million GTD. Winning this event and cashing out $2,000,000 (~INR 14.44 Crores) was the American Roger Teska. This win was his first 7-figure cash prize, making his biggest live win yet.

Final Results:

  1. Steffen Sontheimer – $3,685,000
  2. Sean Winter – $2,430,000
  3. David Peters – $1,420,000
  4. Mikita Badziakouski – $710,000
