Spartan’s Sunday SuperStack goes to Rishab Jain

All of India’s major online poker portals have a list of featured tournaments, which are usually high-value tournaments that attract huge fields with India’s best poker players. The Spartan Poker is an industry leader and they host daily featured tournaments, with Sunday being their main day of business.

The Sunday SuperStack INR 25 lakh GTD is one of their most popular featured tournaments, with a buy-in of INR 5,500 and a kick off time of 7:30pm each Sunday. Yesterday, a strong field of 497 entries registered to the tournament and eventually, the top 40 of these finished in the money (min-cash – INR 15,000).

Coming out on top of this field and shipping this major tournament was Rishab Jain aka ‘rishabjain1983’, who beat this tough field to take down the handsome first-place prize of INR 6,62,500. A number of top pros were a part of the money finishes and Jain thoroughly deserved this top prize on the night.

The tournament ended in Level #56 with the blinds at 100,000/200,000 – 25,000 and Jain beating Rajat Sharma aka ‘Garammasala’ in heads-up. Nearly equal in chip stacks, Jain shoved all-in on the flop where he hit a pair of Tens, while Sharma called with pocket Queens. Sharma was leading but Jain completed a Three to Seven straight on the river, leaving Sharma having to settle for INR 4,12,500 for finishing second.

Gutshot caught up with Jain to ask him about the experience. He said, “This is my biggest online win and indeed, it will be a very memorable one. It feels awesome. As always, it’s never about the money but the feeling of winning a tourney with 300+ players taking part.”

Talking about the competition, he said, “I had a tough time gauging ‘Garammasala’ and ‘FLOPZILA’. My last hand was the luckiest one though (the only hand I played terribly I think) against ‘Garammasala’. He deserved to ship this one but I’m sure every player reaching the FT must’ve given these kind of sick beats to other better players. At the end, it’s just about the way you’re running on that particular day.”

He also told us that he will use this prize money to play more and keep learning. “I love this game. I will also try for the WPT India now in Goa. I wish to become a full time professional poker player. Currently taking courses for mind and body reading abilities. Would want to play less of online though. May the flop be with me,” he added.

Abhinav Iyer aka ‘Schumi91’ and Neel Joshi aka ‘Worm33’ also earned 6-figure scores for finishing 4th and 5th respectively. Keep reading GutshotMagazine.com for more daily updates on Spartan featured tournaments.
