SSS Day 2: Jain, Choudhry, Kaushik, Thakur win titles

Yesterday was Day 2 of the Spartan Super Series (SSS) Gold Edition and like the first day, a total of 8 tournaments were hosted. From these, a couple were extremely high value tournaments like SSS #14 Head-Hunter, which was shipped by Gaurav Sood, who is on a great run at the moment. Apart from that, there was the much-awaited Super High Roller as well as a handful of other side events won by Abhineet JainVinay ChoudhryAshish KaushikRahul Thakur and others. Keep reading for a complete summary of SSS Day 2 on Spartan Poker

SSS Event #9 INR 30k GTD

The day began with a tournament featuring a low buy-in of just INR 66. A total of 178 players joined the competition and by the end of the tournament, 23 players were paid out a minimum of INR 348 each. The top prize of the night went to ‘yash38883’ who bagged INR 6,975 for his efforts, beating ‘ABD17′ in heads’-up, who won INR 4,725. The final hand saw the winner playing his pocket Kings coolly even though he hit a set on the flop. His opponent shoved with a bluff and the call was made to end the tournament.

SSS Event #10 INR 80k GTD

This knockout tournament had a buy-in of INR 275 attached to it, with 172 players joining by the end of the registration period. 23 players shared the spoils with a min-cash of INR 928 but the player who took away the biggest cash prize of the night was Rahul Thakur aka ‘Chanakya’ who made a bankroll addition of INR 18,600 after outlasting ‘pokerdivine’ in heads-up; the latter won the runner-up prize of INR 12,600. Talking about the victory, Thakur said, “Playing SSS is amazing because it offers great value. I dominated the tournament from start to end as I was both playing good and running good, kept the pressure on till the end and with some luck, managed to ship it. It’s a great feeling.”

SSS Event #11 INR 3 Lakh GTD

The third tournament of the day had a slightly higher guarantee and a higher buy-in of INR 880 as well. Naturally, it attracted participation from some better-known players of the community. 180 players joined and the top 27 places were paid out a min-cash of INR 3,000. By the end of the tournament, it was PokerDangal Team Pro Abhineet Jain aka ‘pokemon13’ who shipped the tournament for a decent pay-check of INR 66,450. In heads-up, he got past another known face in Anant Purohit who plays as ‘Pro’ on Spartan Poker. Purohit was rewarded with the runner-up prize of INR 44,850.

SSS Event #12 INR 75k GTD

This re-entry tournament had a buy-in of INR 275 and 141 players joined, with only the top 20 being paid eventually, each getting a minimum of INR 1,005. Vinay Choudhry aka ‘Your Truly’ has been on a good run recently, winning 3 titles in last month’s LBS series on Spartan and he kept up the run here, winning the tournament for INR 18,000 after he beat ‘Wheniscomingmytime1991’ in heads-up, the latter winning INR 12,225. The PLO tournament saw Choudhry hitting a 9-K straight in the final hand, beating Kings and Nines.

SSS Event #13 INR 2 Lakh GTD

INR 550 was the buy-in of this early evening tournament and 236 players participated, with the top 31 being paid a minimum of INR 2,640. Once again, the winner was a player who has won plenty of tournaments on Spartan in the past. Ashish Kaushik aka ‘mmonas’ shipped the event for a bankroll addition of INR 63,450 after he beat ‘OrangeZuce’ in heads-up. The runner-up banked INR 42,270 for his impressive run. “I’m happy about the result as a tournament win is always a boost to confidence,” said Kaushik after this victory.

SSS Event #15 Super High Roller INR 45 Lakh GTD

This is a tournament everyone was waiting for but not everyone could afford to play in it. One of the highlights of the series itself, the SHR had a massive buy-in of INR 55,000 but the promised prizes were much greater. A field of 94 entries means the guarantee was passed ever so slightly, with the new prize pool of INR 47L being shared among the top 11 players. All of these players were guaranteed a 6-figure cash of at least INR 1,17,500. Among those to finish in the money were Abhinav Iyer (8th), Sahil Agarwal (5th), Ashish Munot (4th), and others. However, the biggest prize of the night went to ‘nothing123’ who wished to stay anonymous. He banked an enormous prize of INR 12,92,500 after he beat Guneet Kwatra aka ‘guntz’ in heads-up. Kwatra is a regular on Spartan and he was awarded INR 9,18,850 for finishing second.

SSS Event #16 Hi-Fi INR 4 Lakh GTD

The night ended with an INR 1,650 entry tournament, which saw ‘If6was9’ emerging victorious. We were well past midnight when the player was declared champion, beating a field of 243 players to win the tournament and INR 1,36,735 in prize money. In heads-up, he beat ‘ptr@poker’ who won INR 92,062 for finishing second. The champion ended the tournament with pocket Kings over high card Ace and with that, proceedings for the day came to an end.
