Stephen Chidwick wins the Australian Poker Open Champion!

The High Roller champion in the world Stephen Chidwick who overtook America’s David Peter in all-time money list has proved it once again by winning the inaugural Australian Poker Open Championship. Carried by No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha entirely, the series ended at Melbourne’s The Star Gold Coast casino floor by crowning the A$100,000 Main Event worthy champion Michael Addamo.

The British player, Chidwick cashed in three of the events including a win in Event #5: A$25,000 No-Limit Hold’em, a runner-up finish and the Main Event min-cash. He topped the Championship standings after winning a total of A$949,000 at the series and received an additional $50,000 in prize money. The latest champion has over $34 million in total live earnings. Chidwick grabbed his career-best in the 2019 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series in London earning an incredible $5.36 million.

The final table had a nail-biting action with the tense money bubble in recent history as the Championship was on the line for Chidwick. Eventually, it was short-stacked Kahle Burns to become the bubble boy finishing in the 5th place. Following next was Chidwick who was sent away by Aaron Van Blarcum and with that Alex Foxen was his next target. Foxen shoved with Kc Qc and Blarcum was fortunate to call with his Ace high.

Blarcum and Addamo began heads-up with the latter holding the chip lead. And the tournament eventually halted with Addamo outlasting Blarcum with his turned flush to win the Main Event along with A$1,288,000 in prize money.

“Obviously there’s a lot of luck involved in this too,” said Chidwick. “But over the course of seven, eight, or ten events you’re going to see the better players win more often and it would be fun to see who can collect the most titles like this.”

Final table results

  1. Michael Addamo – A$1,288,000
  2. Aaron Van Blarcum – A$784,000
  3. Alex Foxen – A$448,000
  4. Stephen Chidwick – A$280,000
