Steve O’Dwyer wins WPTDS Amsterdam High Roller


Holland Casino in Amsterdam was host to the ever-popular WPTDeepStacks series. The series came back to Amsterdam this year for the 5th time and it was a successful record-breaking stop too. The 2019 WPTDS Amsterdam was running between 23-31 March 2019 and saw a record participation in the Main Event in its history.

€2,200 High Roller

Steve O’Dwyer won a side event at the Holland Casino, the €2,200 High Roller. He beat a sizeable field and Marcel Goldenbelt in heads-up to be crowned as the champion of the HR for €72,905 (~INR 56.45 Lakhs). This is O’Dwyer’s 2nd victory at the venue, the first one being 2018 Master Classics of Poker (MCOP) €25,500 Super High Roller where local pro Alberto Stegeman shipped the ME.

O’Dwyer is already a superstar in the worldwide poker community and has over $26 million in recorded live cashes till date. He currently sits at 9th in USA’s All-Time Money List and 11th in the worldwide list. He won his biggest live cash back in 2015 for shipping PCA SHR event for $1,872,580 and has never looked back since.

O’Dwyer beat a Final Table which had all local pros on it. Heads-up started with Goldenbelt having 2:1 chip lead. O’Dwyer catched Goldenbelt’s Jd 9s bluff with Kd 6d over a board of Ad 4h Kh 10s As A little while later, Goldenbelt shoved his remaining stack with Queen-nine against O’Dwyer’s Ace-eight suited. The board didn’t amount to anything and O’Dwyer shipped the tournament with higher Ace-kicker.

€1,200 Main Event

The highlight event of the series saw a record-breaking turnout of 507 entries. A total of 64 players finished in the money including notables such as Tobias Peters and Dutch bracelet winner Marcel Vonk. After 4 days of action in the ME, the eventual winner came to be Germany’s Felix Schulze for €104,304 (~INR 80.73 Lakhs).

Schulze beat France’s Emrah Cakmak in heads-up who ultimately settled for €69,525 as the second-place pay-out. He won the last hand of the game with pocket Tens against Cakmak’s Ace-king. American pro Joey Weissman was also present in the field and ran well and rounded up top 3 for €51,285.
