Talamayan leads; 5 Indians survive Championships Event 1A

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) has a current stop in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam and apart from side events taking place, the VND 6 Billion GTD Championships Event has kicked off. This is one of two highlight tournaments of the APT Vietnam series and 60 entries (47 unique and 13 re-entries) joined yesterday on Day 1A of the tournament.

This was one of two starting flights of the tournament and we saw a fantastic performance from Philippines’ Joseph Talamayan who emerged with a monstrous stack of 562,500 chips at the end of day’s play. No one is near him in the chip counts and just to give you an idea of his achievement, he has bagged an equivalent of 11 starting stacks!

8 scheduled levels came to an end yesterday and 25 runners got a bag to Day 2. Among them are 5 Indians and while they are a fair bit away from Talamayan’s stack, they’ve all taken a decent stack to Day 2. These players are Lakshpal Singh (166k), Manoj Pentakota (146k), Ashish Munot (107k), Vaibhav Sharma (100k), and Manish Lakhotia (57k).

Day 1A top 10 chip counts:

  1. Joseph Talamayan – 562,500
  2. Choi Yun Lam Kevin – 183,600
  3. Soo Jo Kim – 169,400
  4. Tran Huy Hoang – 169,100
  5. William Kang – 168,800
  6. Lakshpal Singh – 166,800
  7. Manoj Pentakota – 146,400
  8. Frank Lillis – 140,300
  9. Ashish Munot – 107,000
  10. Dao Ngoc Nam – 103,700

Yesterday was a good day for Team India in Vietnam as apart from 5 Indians progressing to Day 2 of this tournament, Gaurav Sood also narrowly missed a title, finishing runner-up in the PLO Event at Pro Poker Club. We’re expecting Sood to be among the new entrants on Day 1B of the Championships Event today as well. Stay tuned to GutshotMagazine.com for all updates.
