Vanessa Selbst takes back retirement for charitable cause

Former PokerStars Team Pro Vanessa Selbst is widely regarded as one of the best female poker pros ever, with nearly $12 million in live tournament cashes, including a career best cash of $1,823,430 for shipping the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event in Cannes, back in 2010.

She announced her ‘retirement’ from all forms of poker and quit Team PokerStars at the start of this year. The reason we’ve put retirement in inverted commas is because Selbst has now announced that she will be spending the weekend playing poker at the 2018 WSOP and will also go back later for the Main Event next month.

She took to her Twitter account to make this announcement. She also mentioned that she will be giving away 50% of her winnings from the 2018 World Series of Poker to a charitable cause – the safety of immigrants in America. However, she didn’t cash out at any events at the weekend that just went by.

Here’s what she tweeted last week:

“I’m heading out to #WSOP for this weekend and then the main. In honor of the monsters in our gov’t, I will do a matching campaign for 50% of my WSOP profits to groups that support immigrant communities like @MaketheRoadNY. Pls join in pledging what you can at this critical time.”

Around 2,000 immigrant children of undocumented US parents were recently detained at the USA and Mexico border, and were also separated from their parents, due to US President Donald Trump’s stance on issues at the border. This cruel and inhumane move has caused Selbst to come out of poker retirement, so that she can earn some money at the WSOP and give away a half of that towards this cause.
