WPT Cambodia: Jiafeng Sun wins Main Event Warm Up; Singh finishes 2nd

The World Poker Tour (WPT) Cambodia series arrived at NagaWorld and 2 events have already wrapped up, giving away huge cash prizes to the worthy winners and ultimate grinders. Yesterday was the same, when Phnom Penh concluded the WPT Cambodia Main Event Warm Up.

Day 1 of the Warm-Up saw 95 entries, each chipping in $330, but only 20 managed to advance to Day 2. The chip leader Tomaz Kogovsek started the day with 263,000 chips but was ultimately pushed to 8^th position. The tournament gradually saw a prize pool of $92,150 which was shared among the top 12 players, receiving a min-cash of $2,306 each.

It was China’s Jiafeng Sun appearing as the champion of the Main Event Warm-Up and pocketing healthy prize money of $29,234 (~INR 21 Lakhs). Indians have taken over NagaWorld in Cambodia too. Several of them flew in after finishing APT in Vietnam recently.

Day 1 saw Kartik Ved resting 5^th in chips but sadly couldn’t manage to cash in the tournament last night. It didn’t take long for the field to further narrow down to the final few. Kuang Huang Lee was among the first to drop out of the race. Pakistan’s Muhammad Shahzad in 4^th, Singapore’s Tao Tay in 3^rd.

This week saw several Indians in action, battling every bit to take home different trophies. However, the limelight revolved around Laksh Pal Singh playing against Sun heads-up. In the final hand of the tournament, Singh with Qh 10s put his entire stack on the table against Sun’s As 8d. The board ran 5c 4d Js 9h Jc, and the situation did not get better for the Indian. And that’s when the second WPT Cambodia title went to the Chinese player who triumphed the competition for $29,234 prize money! Singh had an impressive runner-up finish for $17,509 (~INR 12.58 Lakhs).
