WPT Philippines: Christopher Mateo leads Flight 5 of All Bankrolls Kickoff


One of the prestigious poker series around the world, the latest World Poker Tour (WPT) edition is back in Philippines hosting a 12-day prolonged series from 6 to 17 February 2020 at Okada Manila. The series commenced with the first event All Bankrolls Kickoff, a six-flight tournament.

Starting on 6 Feb, the entire tournament gathered 237 entries and the field was dominated by the host country. Advertising a guarantee of PHP 5 million the prize pool sits around PHP 2.4 million, looming with an overlay but one flight still remains. Out of this pretty decent field, only a small chunk of 16 players remain, advancing to Day 2.

The first flight saw Japan’s Naoki Koshikawa amassing the largest stack of 355,000 conquering a field of 53 entries with runner paying PHP 5,000 buy-in. The second flight kicked off at 7 pm on 6 Feb with 39 players pouncing on the field and Korea’s Kunwoo Kim accumulated an impressive stack of 531,000.

PHP 5,000 was the buy-in to enter flight 3 on 7 Feb at 12:30 pm local time which pulled out a total of 32 players and the native player Renniel Galvez acquired the maximum stack of 320,000 chips. Flight 4 and 5 also took place the same day with Terry Gonzaga possessing 488,000 chips powering through a field of 39 entries and Christopher Mateo bagging a massive 697,000 chips after outlasting 74 players, respectively.

Mateo is running to grab his first 2020 title, sitting 13th in Philippine’s all-time money list, he is recorded to have championed the 2019 APT Vietnam Monster Stack. The chip leader earned his career-best after taking down the 2019 APT Philippines Main Event for $83,842
