WSOP Day 2: Hellmuth in search of 15th bracelet

by GS Admin Posted on 01 Jun, 2018

The first couple of 2018 World Series of Poker events have concluded, with Jordan Hufty winning Event #1 and Elio Fox winning Event #2. It’s Day 2 and two more events have begun – the $3,000 NLHE SHOOTOUT Event and the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo Event, and Day 1 of the former has come to an end.

A total of 363 entries registered to the SHOOTOUT event, with 50 survivors reaching the end of the day. Part of the action was one of India’s best and PokerStars Team pro Aditya Agarwal, but he wasn’t able to make it to the end of the day. Known entities who are among the final 50 include Joe McKeehenPhil HellmuthChris Moorman, Joe Cada and others.

The 53-year old Hellmuth goes into Day 2 as one of the chip leaders. Already having a record 14 WSOP bracelets under his belt, he will come out tomorrow looking to take down the title, thereby improving that number and taking home the top prize of $226,218. However, it’s not going to be an easy task for him.

Remember, the master has 131 WSOP cashes to his name and with this event paying out the top 50 with a minimum cash prize of $6,302, he’s already going to take that number to 132. Top 10 chip counts going into Day 2:

  1. Arne Ruge – 118,100
  2. Jiacong Zhang – 118,100
  3. Ivan Galinec – 118,100
  4. Joanne Liu – 117,500
  5. Chad Wassmuth – 117,500
  6. Anthony Reategui – 117,200
  7. John Reading – 117,100
  8. Matt Stout – 117,000
  9. Guiseppe Pantaleo – 116,800
  10. James Hughes – 116,700

Another event that began on Day 2 was the Omaha Hi-Lo event that saw a massive participation of 911 entries. Around 380 of these entries are still playing and with the late registration period just ending, the top prize of $239,771 has been calculated. Victor Ramdinwho recently quit Team PokerStars, is running well in this tournament at the moment, among the top 10 chip stacks.
